Second year installation project. Located in Trinity Bouy Wharf, East London, the temporary installation expresses the changes that the future development of the Lower lea Valley region because of the Olympic Games would cause. Earth collected from the 15 areas in the Lower Lea Valley regeneration plan would be used to create a rammed earth wall with the areas that would face the greatest changes having a greater ratio. The earth wall would be slowly eroded by rainwater collected by a roof canopy. The Earth wall would form a temporary inhabitable space with openings and a separate walkway that would facilitate the direct interaction of visitors. The roof of the walkway would collect rain water that would erode the earth wall.

Looking at 3 key perspectives on water; 1. The symbolic nature of water as a renewing, purifying and hygienic agent, 2. The life giving qualities of water, as “a fountain of gardens, the well of living water” 3. Water as a deadly natural force, which can not only give life but also take it The project uses the vehicle of a Maternity Health Centre located in the most extreme of situations, a water slum in the Nigerian city of Lagos, to explore this dual and multifaceted nature of water. The building takes the form of a series of pavilions ordered around an oasis of fresh clean water. There is also provision for supplementary moving health services for home births and check ups.

Neighbourhood Islands

My project asks the question, what if? What if Vienna became a city of hyper local communities, how would they self organise and how would that change the environment. I used narratives a key way to explore the topic. The narrative looked at a future scenario. Vienna in 2050. How could a car-less Vienna, caused by the exponential rise of the price of oil, could trigger the decentralization of the cities infrastructure and the formation of neighbourhood islands, centered on the u-bahn stations. It imagined how these islands could organise themselves to deal with the particular issue of waste management. How would the streets change? How would the u bahn stations change? What would be the effects on the community?

Second year project inspired by London’s great history of clockmaking the aim of the project was to go back to the basic principles of our measurement of time (using Celestial Motion) to create a building for an astronomical clockmaker that uses the motion of the sun, moon and stars to allow visitors and passersby to tell the time (hour, day, month), by its relative position on site. Conceptual models using clock parts aided the design of the buildings mechanisms, which use a simplified version of the rotating gears in a clock. Stop motion animation of conceptual model using principles of an astronomical clock. Music- Ennio Morricone-The clock music Days
